The idea is to help yourself set up to make the best choice; Indulge and not overdo! Holiday mood is on and temptation for a cheat day and junk food is attacking from every corner. Here are a few health tips that you can do to bring a balance between your holiday season and your wellness:
Don’t go to events and parties Hungry
When you’re hungry you tend to crave quick calories, and those usually take the form of sugar, refined carbs and fat which are staple ingredients of holiday snacks. Generally when you walk into a party or event hungry you might end up diving face first into the sugar cookies.
Eat Protein and fiber rich foods
Try to eat a whole meal, made up of protein, fiber and healthy fats, 1-2 hours before you go to an event or a party, to prevent over eating things that your brain would be craving but won’t provide you any nutrition. These foods will fill you up and keep you full.
Drink more water!
Yes, you are aware that you need to be hydrated. But drinking more water is important because, many times signals of hunger may confuse you for dehydration. If you find yourself feeling hungry out of the blue, sip few glasses of water and see if it does the trick.
Slow down your eating time
Most of us eat our meals way too quick, which doesn’t allow natural fullness signals to reach the brain. You may have consumed enough food already, but your brain isn’t telling you to slow down and you end up eating more than needed. Try to take at least 15 to 20 minutes to finish your meal.
Workout before you eat
Working-out after a giant dinner thinking it will burn everything may not be the best approach. When you work out, you put your body into a better state to handle food afterward. Your body can make better use of lower quality carbs and sugars, and begin the recovery process.
